Literature circles

We have been doing literature circles. Literature circles are when you pick a book to read, then respond to the text in some way.

Some ways to respond to your text are drawing pictures, making mental pictures, make inferences, making predictions, agree or disagree with the charecters decisions, connect ythe story to your own life, asking questions, changing the story like – what if and many more ways.

The book that I am reading currently is The Witches. with the recent chapter I have read I have responded to the text by asking questions, summarising, putting myself into the charectars  shoes, making inferences and changing the story. I changed the story by asking what would’ve happened if the boy was with a friend or his grandma in the treehouse when the witch came.

Have you ever done literature circles before?
What are some ways you have responded to your text?

    Dear Connie,

That is a fantastic description of what literature circles are, including the different ways we can respond to what we have read.

I haven’t done literature circles before but I have been involved in book clubs. My favourite part is when we get to discuss the different parts of the story that we agree or disagree with. I always want to talk to somebody when I have finished reading a text!

What do you think would have happened if the boy was with his grandmother in the tree when the witches came?

    Dear Connie,

Yes I have done Literature Circles before. The way I responded to the text was by drawing a picture and writing a summary.
